Although a beautiful old barn sits on our land, unfortunately, like everything else about a 1851 farmstead, it too needs much work before it can be habitable. So, for now, we (and by that I mean me with some help from my little ones) will embark on our first solo building project:
a funky chicken coop.
After much research, not only have I learned what I need to know about raising heritage birds, I've also learned that the architecture of chicken coops is not to be taken lightly:
- The city of Austin, Texas has an annual tour "The Funky Chicken Coop Tour"... and they are not the only city who does this.
-Just Fine Design/build has chicken coops along side furniture design & structures on their website as well as a published book "Reinventing the Chicken Coop".
- Williams-Sonoma even carries 8 different models including a reclaimed one!
While some coops are architecturally designed & incredibly innovative...
